Rally Launch - Nenagh Stages Rally Rev’s up

Processed-01 Processed-01 Processed-01 Processed-01 Processed-01

The 2017 Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh Stages Car rally launched last Saturday in style. The Nenagh stages rally which is organised and promoted by Birr & District Motor Club is returning to Nenagh on the 26th February after a break of nearly 7 years from the area. The club is delighted to be back running its annual Stages rally based in Nenagh town and the surrounding areas.

The rally is sponsored by The Abbey Court Hotel and Slattery’s Of Puckane Peugeot. Representing the Abbey Court Hotel at the launch was Ray Lynch. Ray spoke of how the Abbey Court Hotel are delighted to come on board as the main sponsor for the event as they had done in 2008, 2009 & 2010. The hotel are looking forward welcoming of the 140+ Competing crews who come from all over Ireland, UK, USA & UAE.

Andrew Slattery from Slatterys Garage Puckane was also present at the launch. Andrew spoke of how delighted they are to be on board as Co-Sponsors for the Rally with support from Peugeot Ireland. Andrew being a regular competitor in Rallying himself is delighted that Rally is coming back to Nenagh. Andrew himself intends to compete in the event in his Peugeot 208 R2 Rally Car.

The rally itself takes place on Sunday 26th February with some crews rolling into town on Friday 24th in preparation. The rally is the 1st round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship, 1st round of the Top Part West Coast & 1st Round of the Midlands East Rally Championship. The rally is a testament to Birr & District Motor and the hard working rally committee who have put in a lot of work over the past 12 months to bring this event back to the locality of Nenagh. The event would not be possible without the co-operation of the all the local residents living on the stages. Also without the co-operation of Tipperary County Council & An Garda Siochana this event would not be possible. The motor club have several members from Nenagh, Burgess, Silvermines, Portroe, Cloughjordan & Templemore who are regular competitors in the sport and it is great for us to showcase our local town and surrounding areas.

Regs and more info on the rally can be found here.

Birr & District Motor Club organised the Road Safety Authority Shuttle & Roll over simulator to visit Nenagh College on the 16th January. Transition Year students from both Nenagh College and Borrisokane Community College attended this Road Safety Campaign. Also on the day Birr MC Member Pat Horan from Aglish brought his Audi Quattro Rally Car. Pat along with Art McCarrick (Development Officer Motorsport Ireland) demonstrated the safety features of the rally car compared to the normal road car.

Students got to experience first-hand what it was like to be turned upside down in a standard road car. Here they learned the importance of wearing a safety belt correctly and how it can save them from a minor injury to a major injury. Also all of the students got to experience the new state of the art Road Safety Shuttle. Inside the shuttle are various simulators that replicate safe braking distances, driving on ice and snow, testing their reaction times in the event of an unexpected emergency.

Birr & District Motor Club would like to thank Nenagh College for allowing the use of their facilities for the Road Safety Shuttle & Roll over simulator. Also we would like to express our thanks to Damien Kennedy (Principle Nenagh College) & Padraig Shrahan, (TY Co-ordinator Nenagh College). Matthew Carr (Principle Borrisokane Community College) & Orla Cunningham (TY Co-ordinator Borrisokane Community College). Christine Hegarty(RSA), Laura Tully(RSA Shuttle Staff), Ciaran Masterson(RSA Shuttle Staff), Gerry Connolly(RSA Shuttle), Tommy Massey(RSA Shuttle), Dominic Smyth(RSA Roll over simulator), Stewart Clarke(RSA Roll over simulator). Donal Purcell (Tipperary County Council Road Safety Officer), Peter Fee(Tipperary County Council).
